Schools should be more transparent and conscience in their handling of school funds. I believed students and their parents should have a thorough acknowledgement of what their fees goes to and the exact distribution of it.

School funds are essential for the development of the school in facilities and miscellaneous for the students. A fund has to be setup to ensure a regular cash flow within the school itself so as to ensure that financial problems are not present in a studying compound which could disrupt the reputation of the school through media exposure to its problem and most importantly the mood of the students. These ‘minor’ problems should not be present to affect students in their studies.

However, funds for the school had slowly developed into a form of organization, a source to further expansion of either the school or other affiliated organizations. Funds are also used for positive investments and the entire idea of having school funds change from simply paying the teachers and principle their wages to building a stronger bond with other organization and at the same time to ensure the financial stability of the school. Yes, I do believe that with more funds, a school could have more freedom in their expansion in facilities and school compound.

This will lead to a good reputation of the school and also allows students to be studying in a conducive environment.

This is therefore advantageous to both parties; students and parents and also the school.

Since school funds nowadays have transformed into a form of investment, parents and students as investors should have the right to know where their money goes to. For example, funds are pumped into the building fund of a new school facility? Into printing fees for students? Into water and electrical bills? Into the planting of trees in school compounds to promote greenery and beauty in the school? These are some things the school requires to help assist students to excel mentally and physically. But very importantly, they neglected the consent from the ‘investors’, which led to much confusion and displease towards the use of funds.

I would recommend letters to be distributed – letters of details of a new project for school expansion and welfare for the students, to gain consent and understanding from the parents before they come to a final decision. This would allow parents to feel more valued as they took part in a decision for their child’s future which would be molded by the school.

Though usage of funds for investments is essential, there must be a limit. We definitely do not wish to see any misuse in the funds, which could be illegal. Lastly, my belief, ‘Simplicity makes perfect,’ should be made applicable to the management of school. Remember, a school is a place for studies.
